Galaxy S26 Camera Upgrades: 24MP Resolution, HDR10+ & More! (Leaked Features) (2026)

Get ready for a game-changer in smartphone photography! Recent leaks suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S26 series from Samsung might just deliver the camera upgrades we've all been waiting for.

But are these rumors too good to be true? Last month's leak hinted at exciting new features for the Camera Assistant app, and now we have more evidence to fuel the fire. The latest One UI 8.5 update seems to support the introduction of a 24MP shooting mode, as well as new HDR options for HDR10+.

And here's where it gets intriguing: Android users have been vocal about their expectations for the S26 (as seen in our recent poll), but will these rumored upgrades be enough to win them over? Especially since the leaks suggest that the S26 might not be a significant leap forward from the S25 in terms of design and performance.

Remember that leak from November? It teased a bunch of improvements for the Camera Assistant app, including a 24MP resolution for Camera and Portrait modes, a noise-reducing Adaptive Pixel feature, a focus speed slider, and enhanced HDR options. While we can't confirm all these features just yet, we've discovered compelling evidence for two of them in the One UI 8.5 code.

Here's a sneak peek at the code strings we found:

<string name="description_24mp_resolution">Turn on High efficiency pictures in Camera settings to save space with 24 MP shots.</string>
<string name="summary_24mp_resolution">Add a 24 MP resolution option to Photo mode.</string>
<string name="summary_hdr10_plus_v2">Use HDR10+ in Video and Pro video modes. Requires HDR activation in Camera settings. Videos will default to SDR if HDR10+ is disabled.</string>

These code snippets confirm the 24MP option and its settings. We also see the HDR10+ feature, although the focus speed slider remains elusive. However, Samsung's recent moves to support new focus-control hardware give us hope that this feature might still make an appearance.

One mystery remains: the Adaptive Pixel feature. We're still in the dark about how it works, as it could involve merging multiple low-resolution images into a high-resolution masterpiece. But we're eager to uncover the magic behind it in future One UI 8.5 builds.

A word of caution: APK teardowns provide a glimpse into potential future features, but they don't guarantee their inclusion in the final release. So, stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the Galaxy S26 launch!

What do you think about these rumored camera upgrades? Are they enough to convince you to upgrade to the S26, or do you think Samsung should be doing more? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
