On December 15, 2025, a significant development occurred in the defense technology sector as Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited, commonly referred to as EOS, announced that it has finalized a binding conditional agreement with a client in the Republic of Korea. This contract is valued at an impressive US$80 million, equivalent to approximately A$120 million.
But here’s where it gets intriguing: if all stipulated conditions are met, this contract will encompass not only the manufacturing and sale of a cutting-edge 100kW High Energy Laser Weapon but also the establishment of a joint venture aimed at catering to the Korean market with these advanced laser systems. This collaboration will pave the way for the licensing of intellectual property related to the 100kW High Energy Laser Weapons specifically for Korea.
Key Aspects of the Contract
The contract entails the production and delivery of the specified high-energy laser weapon, which will be created at EOS's newly established Laser Weapon Manufacturing Facility located in Singapore.
Under the terms of the agreement, the total payment to EOS amounts to US$80 million (around A$120 million). The conditions include the customer making an initial deposit of US$18 million, securing a Letter of Credit for the remaining contract value, and conducting a satisfactory inspection of the Singapore Facility by the customer. These prerequisites are expected to be fulfilled by January 31, 2026.
Furthermore, the contract features standard provisions such as milestone payments tied to the remaining income from the contract and the assurance of full refunds should the product fail to meet performance standards. If all conditions are satisfied, the contract is anticipated to culminate in the delivery of the product to Korea by the end of 2027, followed by essential demonstration phases.
In addition, subject to meeting the necessary conditions and obtaining relevant regulatory approvals, EOS is mandated to provide a license for its intellectual property concerning the 100kW High Energy Laser Weapon to the newly formed Joint Venture. Payments due under the contract will be made after the establishment of this joint venture and the successful achievement of performance milestones during product demonstrations.
